There are services that provide specialised treatment and support to children and young people with cancer.
- Cancer services for children (0-14 years)
 - Cancer services for young people (15-25 years)

Tests and timeframes
Cancer care pathways have been developed by the Cancer Council to help identify recommended care at each stage of the pathway.
Tests for melanoma
Initial tests may be organised by the general practitioner (GP) and can include:
- a baseline photograph
 - measurement of the lesion
 - observation over a period of time (for lesions with a low level of suspicion).
 - biopsy.

Timeframes for referral
- Initial tests should be performed within two weeks of general practitioner (GP) presentation, with results of a biopsy available within one week.
 - The specialist consultation should take place within two weeks of the initial GP appointment.

Melanoma information
More information about the melanoma care pathway is available in these fact sheets:
- Optimal care pathway for melanoma Quick reference guide for health professionals
