Radiotherapy Unit

Radiotherapy involves the treatment of tumours using x-rays or radiation. Treatment begins with an appointment with your radiation oncologist (radiotherapy doctor). Your doctor will then discuss with you the treatment options available, based on the type of tumour and its location in the body. You and your doctor will then decide on the best treatment plan for you. Once the treatment is decided, a team of radiation therapists (health professionals who deliver the radiotherapy treatment) and radiation oncologists will plan the treatment area with the patient using a CT Scan. The treatment planning session and appointments will then be booked. The radiation oncology unit also has nursing staff who will provide assessment and nursing care as required throughout the treatment and will be available to answer any questions.
